Hug Me, I'm Emo

If you’re walking through downtown Oberlin on any given day, you’re likely to see a message on at least one of the big boulders that are located within Tappan Square. The three big glacial rocks—one located near the Memorial Arch, one off College Street across from the Conservatory, and the other further down College Street across from the shopping district—have served as a kind of community message board for decades. But have you ever wondered how those three big rocks came to be on Tappan Square and how the tradition of painting them got started?
