Description
A student project that includes and explores the correspondence between Mary Burton, teacher and member of temperance and reform societies, and Giles Waldo Shurtleff, Union captain for Ohio companies. The letters follow their courtship and marriage and provide a window on conceptions of romantic love, as well as growing tensions between female education and domesticity.
