This is a syllabus for a college-level course in which students explore the history of Oberlin, Ohio, as a unique location and in relation to broader trends in American history. The class challenges students to research, understand and evaluate the past of this complex multicultural community in relation to the national narrative about struggles for civic identity, human rights, racial equality and social justice. This is a version of the syllabus from the last time it was taught, in Fall 2014.
