John Mercer Langston House

Description

The John Mercer Langston House, built in 1855 and located on East College Street across from Eastwood Elementary School, was the home of John Mercer Langston and his family from 1856 until 1867. John Mercer Langston was an Oberlin graduate and lifelong activist for racial equality who blazed a path as a lawyer, politician, diplomat, college president, and US Congressman. The house was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1975.
