Description
Rhiannon Giddens graduated from Oberlin Conservatory with a degree in opera in x. While in college she became interested in banjo and she became a founding member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops. The banjo is an instrument originally brought to America by enslaved African people but commercialized by white minstrel musicians. The history of the banjo is complex, painful, and necessary to uncover and share. Giddens currently sees uncovering the banjo’s history as her life purpose.
